Story

Here are some facts you may not know. Over 2 million people in the UK are currently (January 2023) suffering with Long Covid, 645,000 of them have been suffering for over two years and nearly 400,000 have had their lives changed out of all recognition. Frightening statistics eh? Especially as any one of us could be one of those statistics…

My name is Charlie Russell and I am one of those statistics.
“I first contracted Covid 19 in March 2020 and have been learning to live with the effects of Long Covid. That first year was a dark time. Family, loved ones and friends supported me as much as they could, but back then no one really knew about Long Covid, what it was, or what it could do. Then I found Long Covid SOS, a charity set up by Long Covid suffers just like me, to help people just like me. Their help and support was truly amazing and their work so invaluable to me - and thousands of others like me.
I’m now fully recovered but with new limitations on what I can do that I’ve had to learn how to live with. Which is why I now want to give something back by raising funds and awareness of the invaluable work that Long Covid SOS does.
So, in April this year I, along with my dad and my brother, are going to try to climb to Everest Base Camp.

The trek we will be attempting will take 17 days and due to its high altitude will be one of the hardest physical tests that I (and my dad and brother) will have undertaken. We may not make it of course; the new limitations on my body means that I’m not quite back to where I was before Covid and I have to be much more mindful when it comes to listening to my body but the ‘windows’ of good health have got longer and I have got stronger. Strong enough to hopefully be able to do this for Long Covid SOS and for all the people who are undertaking their own Long Covid trek to recovery”.

If you would like to support me, my brother @howie_russell and my dad in our quest and thereby support @longcovidsos and all those unfortunate enough to be suffering from Long Covid, then please donate whatever you can and please share this page with others.

Thank you.
