In July 2011, I will once again be taking part in a 48 hour long dance with the School of Movement Medicine http://schoolofmovementmedicine.com/. During the Long Dance ceremony, we will dance, sing and pray together for all our relations, recognising that our individual wellbeing is connected to the wellbeing of the planet and all its inhabitants.  Through dance and ceremony, we honour this interconnectedness and the sacredness of life, and vow to play our part in protecting it. This seems more and more pertinent at this time of great change.

 

To 'be the change we want to see in the world' and connect our individual dance and healing to concrete action in the world, all participants will raise funds for a charity of their choice.

 

I have chosen to raise money for several different charities with different events over the coming months, but would once again make Survival International one of them as I really think that the work they engage in is important and very relevant to what is going on in the world. Survival helps tribal peoples defend their lives, protect their lands and determine their own futures. You can find out more about them here http://www.survivalinternational.org/ 

 

Apart from the obvious need to protect their human rights, for me this is also about protecting traditions which hold very important wisdom for all of us, particularly as our relationship with the earth and all its beings is concerned. But these tribes and their way of living are facing huge challenges: the rights to their traditional homelands and natural resources are under constant threat from the greedy interests of big business and governments, for example through mining, dam and tourism projects. Survival draws attention to the plight of these peoples  and gives them a platform and voice.
