Story
I am cycling from London to Paris (~ 305 miles) over 4 days from 24th June - 28th June. Parkinson's Disease Society is a fantastic charity, who need our help to conquer this debilitating disease. Have a read of the note from one of my best friends who lost her Mum to the disease.
"Firstly I would like to say a big Thank You to Helen for competing in the to bike ride for the Parkinson’s Disease Society. I have raised money for the last couple of years (since mum passed away) but this year they are not allowing me, at 7 months pregnant, to do my usual walk……how strange! J Helen has kindly stepped in to do the physical assault this year, being far braver than I would ever be and cycling a fair old distance!! Crack on H and don’t get too saddle sore!!!
A bit about my Mum….Margaret was diagnosed with Parkinsons in 1985 when I was about 13 years old. You would have thought that this would affect all of our lives in a big way for a long time, but No, my mum was far too brave to let it upset her or us. She and my Dad continued being Foster Parents to lots of children, my house was never quiet!! The last couple of years were difficult as Parkinsons took over Mum’s body and made it difficult for walking, talking and eating. Still Mum braved through and kept a smile on her face and never complained. My Dad worked tirelessly during this time being her sole carer and making sure she could stay at home where her whole family were around. Mum passed away in 2006 after becoming very ill so was finally out of her pain. There is not a single day that goes past that I do not miss Mum and think of her and I know the same is true for all my foster brothers and sisters who’s lives she transformed.
RIP Mum & Dad, Love You.
