Story
Background:
Over the past 8 years, my good friend Colin has seen the impact and result of Alzheimer’s and dementia-related diseases on family members and loved ones. His father was the first to be diagnosed and he has now reached an advanced stage.
Since then, his partner's father and some of his family and friends have all been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Vascular Dementia or a combination of both.
Colin has struggled with the transition to communicating with and supporting his affected family members. At the time Colin’s knowledge of the disease was limited, so through discussions with his mother, partner, extended family and friends, he set about improving his knowledge of the effects of the illness and turned to the Alzheimer's Society website that significantly helped.
My own knowledge is also limited; however the Alzheimer’s Society website is very informative with the ‘Five things you should know about dementia’ section an introduction on the disease and its effects.
The event:
It's clear that there is a lot more
research required to find a cure and supporting people affected. To do this more funding is required. Colin and I will be taking part in 346-mile London to Paris charity ride in order to raise donations for the Alzheimer’s Society. I have seen this a great opportunity to raise money for the charity as well as take part in a 'once-in-a-lifetime' cycling challenge.
What we are asking for:
To do this we need to raise £1650 each by the end of May 2022 and are asking for donations via our JustGiving pages where the funds will go directly to the charity.
All donations will be greatly received.
Thanks in advance!
