Story
Thanks for visiting the appeal page for the London Project to Cure Blindness at UCL.
Your sight is our highest priority and we believe research is the best means of protecting it.
The project offers hope to millions of patients who suffer from both the 'dry' and 'wet' forms of AMD. Due to the generosity of philanthropists, The Lincy Foundation and the Macular Disease Society and many individual patients with AMD as well as the general public Phase 1 of the London Project has progressed on target to preparation for clinical trial in 2012. However, in order to consolidate the trial as well as complete Phase II of the project to individualised stem cells for each patient we are looking to raise a further £5 million. We are hoping that we are able to see the same generosity in raising this sum as in the original spectaculer philanthropic donation that launched the project.
To put this in perspective, this is an eye disease which affects 25 per cent of over 60'sn in the UK, approximately 3 million people. If everyone currently suffering from AMD in the UK donated just £2, we would have the funds required to develop a cure for blindness.
