Ok folks let’s be honest, I am not a natural runner – I have
short legs that don’t cover much ground in a stride and prefer a ramble in a forest than a sweat on the streets. But many years ago I said to myself that I would run a marathon before I am 40.  I entered and got a place in the 2020 London Marathon and then COVID came along ... we all know the rest. 

Errrr…..Well - I am now 41 - my place has been bumped to October 2022 and this is my chance to do this. So, I am strapping on some trainers and hitting the grueling task of training for the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon. 

Trust me this is tough, but not as tough as living with dementia. 

I am doing this in memory of my Mummy, Netty, a wonderful inspiring woman, who was diagnosed with early onset Dementia in her early 60's and died in 2018. Amongst others, The Alzheimer's Society provided us with information and advice when we needed it. They also work to share understanding how a person can continue to live a fulfilling life with a dementia diagnosis, and how family, friends and society can help an individual to keep their independence. They run an amazing training scheme called Dementia Friends - training everyone to help people living with dementia by taking actions - both big and small. From visiting someone you know with dementia to being more patient in a shop queue - every action matters. 

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Funding research and support networks - until a cure is found, they aim to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
