Story
I'm running three spring marathons (Manchester, London and Edinburgh) dressed as a golf ball in memory of my wife Sarah, and to raise money and awareness for Sarcoma UK.
On the 19th June 2018 we lost Sarah, my beloved wife, to Sarcoma; a rare and often aggressive type of cancer.
Sarah was my wife, my best friend and my soul mate and seeing her go through harsh treatments, surgery and ultimately the decline in her health was heart-breaking for us all to witness.
In the midst of something so dreadful Sarah's beauty, kind hearted nature, and positivity shone through. Months before Sarah passed away she organised a hugely successful charity ball raising money for Sarcoma UK and Willow Foundation. Through her expertise as a neurophysio, and in latter years patient, she spent precious time helping medical professionals gain a greater understanding of the needs of cancer patients.
The above examples epitomised Sarah. She was unassuming, but fiercely determined, and dealt with what was a shock diagnosis with courage and dignity that will continue to inspire those of us left behind.
Sarah deserved a better outcome, but sadly successful treatment options are sorely lacking. Survival rates have been very gradually increasing over the last two decades, but still only half of those diagnosed with sarcoma will survive 5 years. This is not good enough.
Sarcoma UK are working to improve the dreadful stats and are now one of the biggest funders of sarcoma research in the UK, having invested £2m to date.
By donating to my page, you will fund vital research projects looking for better treatments. Your donation will also raise awareness of the symptoms of sarcoma to help patients get an early diagnosis, and ensure everyone has access to specialist advice.
