Story

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-limiting genetic condition affecting more than 10,000 people across the UK. It affects the lungs and digestive system and can cause chronic infections and reduced lung function. Currently, half of those with CF will not live past age 41.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is fighting for a brighter future for people with CF and their families by funding cutting-edge research, driving up standards of care and supporting people with the condition and their loved ones every step of the way.

I went to school with an amazing girl, Sarah Bridger. I wasn’t Sarah’s Best Friend. Sarah had millions of best friends because she was the sunniest warmest of girls. AND She was SO much fun. I spent a lot of time with Sarah at School, TWGGS we were in the same form every year and chose one of the same A levels. Then we went to separate unis and I moved away from Tunbridge Wells. And to be honest felt I hadn’t achieved enough to ever go back. I was so grateful when Sarah allowed me back in her life in 2018. Sarah looked up all the time and found the light in every situation. Sarah was an active member of the Cystic Fibrosis Community and fought so hard for the cause most recently the Orkambi/Symedko funding and availability. When chatting to Sarah I realised how important the Cystic Fibrosis Trust were and offered support in so many areas, not just medical.

In April of this year Sarah lost her fight to Cystic Fibrosis. And believe me she fought, she was feisty and brave and dogged every single day. At the most beautiful Celebration of Life service organised by Sarah’s amazing strong and full of love family and friends everyone that spoke of Sarah used the phrase #bemorebadger Badger was one of Sarah’s many nicknames and it means take life on the chin, embrace the challenge and seize the day. And so Sarah I am taking on the challenge of the London Marathon for you. To add to your legacy of positivity and to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust for research and support.

This is going to be the biggest challenge of my life but one I am already so proud to have be chosen to do. This is going to be a journey for sure and I am sure I will have a lot to say along the way. I might set up a blog as well.

Thank you for joining me as I prepare to definitely #bemorebadger
