London Landmarks Half Marathon 2023 · 2 April 2023 ·
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
I have worked in a care home for people with dementia for the last year and a half, starting out as a carer and now as a domestic assistant. Dementia is one of the most devastating things I have ever witnessed. I didn't fully understand it when I was younger and my dear nana passed away with dementia but seeing it properly and how it affects everyone it touches so differently has made me feel very passionate about a cure being found one day. It is an unbelievably cruel disease that has made me realise just how precious our memories are.
My mental health has had lots of ups and downs in the last year, one thing I struggled a lot with is lack of motivation, I used to do running quite a bit in school and kept it up until 2019 when I did my 2nd and last half marathon. I decided rather impulsively recently to find something to get me out of the house other than work and looked up running events to give me that motivation to go out and train and I decided on the London Landmarks Half Marathon. It looks like such an incredible, fun and challenging event and I knew I had to do it for charity.
Anything you can donate would be absolutely amazing and goes towards such an amazing cause.
Thank you so much, Georgia. xxx
