Story
On Friday June 7th we’re doing a 24 hour team relay run from London to Cardiff to raise money for the Fiona Flower Fund. The team is made up of swimmers, cyclists, skiers and sky-divers who think they can run, and our mascot beer-drinker. The aim is to get from London to Cardiff in 24 hours without getting lost (for some of the Flowers, this might be difficult).
The Fiona Flower Fund is a Charitable Trust created in Fiona’s memory to fund research and projects special to her. The trust supports up and coming research into screening, diagnosis and treatments of cancers, as well as providing psychological and motivational support.
Fiona bravely fought breast cancer for a decade, but sadly died in 2013. She was a keen swimmer, runner and cyclist. Even the year she died she competed in the pool and entered an ironman.
Because of Fiona’s passion for sport, her sons decided raising money through fun, sporting and adventure activities in order to continue her fight against breast cancer was a fitting way to honour her memory. The money raised is used to help Fiona’s oncologists and breast surgeons in the Bristol area develop new breast cancer therapies. They also provide physiotherapy and sports sessions to help patients recover after their surgery.
