Personal Stories

My father was diagnosed quite late in his illness and spent some time in the various wards in the Royal Berkshire Hospital.  But the care and dignity they showed him through his last hours was amazing and I would never want to see the level of support provided by the staff in the Adelaide Ward be put at risk for anybody else who needed it.

It’s very hard when a member of your family is diagnosed with cancer. I remember when my sister called round one evening to tell me she had breast cancer, it was difficult to believe at first, it felt like I could do nothing to help or make her better, I felt very sad and just wanted her to receive the best treatment ever as I could not bear the thought of anything happening to her. She was treated with such care and compassion at the RBH Cancer centre, and it’s for this reason I would like to raise funds so other people can benefit from this service.

Honesty, kindness, supportive and positive are the words I would use to describe everyone we met during our emotional journey through the RBH Cancer Centre

I remember within minutes of the words leaving the Consultants mouth “Mrs Nicklin your tests are positive, you have cancer we need to operate” we were caught by the Angels  “The RBH Breast Cancer Nurses”. They delivered fantastic support to both of us, no question was to tricky or stupid.

I don’t think we could have received any better treatment from anywhere in the country – in my eyes they are all stars, from the most senior to the most junior.

I am proud do my bit to support the RBH Cancer Centre.

Husband of a Cancer Survivor thanks to RBH Cancer Centre.
