During 2010 I will be cycling from to - via the - in aid of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.

In October 2008 my mother lost the battle with Breast Cancer at the age of 53 and I have decided to do something to try to raise money for other cancer sufferers in Yorkshire (my home County) - whilst also pursuing a long held dream of cycling through Europe and .

 

Here are some interesting facts about my trip:

 

·         Total distance is approximately 19,000 kilometers

 

·         It should take me between 9 and 12 months to complete my challenge

 

·         I will be totally self sufficient, sleeping mainly in my tent at the side of the road or in the woods

 

·         I am funding the expenses for my trip myself

 

·         I will cross Europe, Central Asia, , and South East Asia before reaching

 

·         When I cross I will be climbing over the Himalayas and if you total all the hills I will climb during my route through they will equate to cycling the height of Mt Everest 5 TIMES!!! I read this in a book - I didn’t do the maths myself (im not that sad).

 

·         One of the roads I will be cycling on in is closed to foreigners. Its 2,000 km long so I will have to sneak through military check points late at night to avoid being turned back. (Imagine getting 1,950 km and then being turned back!).  Another road I will be cycling on is also widely regarded as one of the highest and hardest motorable roads in the world.
