Story
Everyone always told me I couldn't run, including myself. So why not challenge myself especially when it is for such a great cause.
I'm running the London Marathon for Prostate Cancer UK. Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. That's one dad, partner, brother, son, grandad, uncle or mate. I'm raising money to help fund lifesaving research and support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer.
Working as a GP I see men and families affected by prostate cancer every day. I want to be able to do more to help support the amazing work the charity does to support those affected as well as improve the prospects for future generations so we can pick up the disease at an earlier stage. By donating today you can help bring about the developments that we do desperately need.
Running is something I never thought I could do. As a practice, we sponsored our local ParkRun. I have 10 weeks to get ready to run. Being overweight and sedentary it was going to be a challenge. I completed the NHS Couch 2 5k programme and ran my first 5k in 2019. It has allowed me to fall in love with running and lead a healthier lifestyle, hoping to inspire friends and patients to make similar changes. Now, 4 and a half stone lighter and 10 minutes quicker over 5k I feel ready for the next challenge, the London Marathon.
