Story
In April 2024, I'm running the London Marathon for Prostate Cancer UK.
My Dad has prostate cancer and was given 5 years to live back in March 2023. I will be running for him especially but also for all those struggling with the trials and tribulations that come with Cancer treatment.
To add to my reason for running for PCUK, we recently lost a close family friend after a long battle with prostate cancer.
As part of the my challenge I want to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer and spread the word wider. Together with the support of my hockey club, Old Cranleighan HC, we have run various awareness campaigns during November. The entire Men’s section wore personalised OCHCxPCUK socks and match day fundraising raffles were arranged too. Together we raised £1,335 from this initiative.
Following on from November I pledged to keep my moustache until the marathon if my donation pot had reached £5,000 by Christmas. Thanks to everyone who donated towards that total as we have smashed it and the Mo is here to stay.
My parent’s in early March ran a Brew & Bake at their home near Shrewsbury and managed to raise over £1,100. A special mention to Bridget and Ruth who worked very hard to help set up the morning and baked various items. Thank you very much to everyone that attended but also to those that donated towards the total.
I originally set out to raise £3,500 but I have raised my target a couple of times along the fundraising journey. My new target is £10,000 and will continue to push the efforts until the end.
A couple days before the marathon we reached the stretch target and since have continued to raise money. Having completed the marathon in 3:38:48, it was an unbelievable day and I would recommend anyone to go for it and compete next year! Thank you to everyone who was out there cheering on the day and to those that were tracking me around the world!
We have reached £12,000!!! (May 1st)
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK. That's one dad, partner, brother, son, grandad, uncle or mate. I'm raising money to help fund lifesaving research and support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer.
The opportunity to raise money and awareness of such a great charity will be a true privilege and an unbelievably special moment to do it for my Dad too.
