Story
Hi all,
I am running the London Marathon for Prostate Cancer UK as prostate cancer has had a huge impact on me and my family.
On the 31st October 2015 age 47 I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer! My treatment plan started with chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy, and several years of hormone therapy.
In 2020 scans showed it had spread to one of my ribs, this was subsequently treated with Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) which gives high dose targeted radiotherapy.
Finally, after several years of treatment in October 2021 I felt well enough to take up the challenge of running in the London Marathon which I had wanted to do for many years and running for Prostate Cancer UK was an obvious choice!
I started my training in April 2022 and although very tough at first I looked forward to the runs and soon realised the benefit it was having on my mental health!
Unfortunately, in recent weeks I've had a setback as blood tests and scan results have now shown the cancer to have spread to my lung, I am currently waiting on a treatment plan.
Despite this news it has made me even more determined to run and complete the marathon whilst raising as much money as possible to help fund the continued lifesaving research needed, along with the support for men and their families affected by prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer kills 1 in 8 men, that equates to one man losing his life every 45 minutes! That's a dad, partner, brother, son, grandad, uncle or mate. To all you fellas PLEASE make sure you have a regular PSA blood test; like all cancers, early detection is key!
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, any donations will be greatly received.
