Story
I'm running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Prostate Cancer UK. Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men in the UK.
On 23rd December 2020, my family received the news that our dad was diagnosed with Stage 3a Prostate Cancer, after losing our mum, his wife of 25 years, just a year before.
Dad went through surgery in 2021 and, to our joy, was given the all clear shortly after. However, 6 months later, we were given the news that it had come back and this time it was Stage 4. Our dad then had to face 4 long weeks of Radiotherapy and is currently having Hormone treatment for the next 5 years to steady the cancer.
Through the last few years, our Dad has been through things I never could have imagined but kept a smile on his face the whole time. The strength and determination he showed and still shows now is incredible.
From not being a runner or anywhere near athletic for that matter, I’ve chosen to take part in this challenge on behalf of me and my 3 siblings to raise money for such an important cause.
Our dads story is a more positive one, and that isn’t the case for a lot of families that are impacted by this disease. We are very lucky to still have him here and I can’t wait to see his face at the finish line!
This is for you Dad, love you x
