Story
This October I am joining 29 (and counting) other intrepid cyclists to ride from Paris to Amsterdam as part of One More City, an annual cycling campaign during Breast Cancer Awareness Month that moves from city to city, starting from where the previous year’s ride finished. Last year the campaign’s first group rode from London to Paris in 24 hours. This year, its second will cover 570km from Paris to Amsterdam over 3 days.
To make it a bit more of a challenge though I have decided to tag on additional first and last leg that’ll also see me cycle from London to Paris, and then from Amsterdam to London. So that’s about 1,000km all in. Over about 5 days.
While I hope a worthy cause (and the inevitably steady flow of French, Belgian and Netherlandish baked goods) will be enough to see me ride 1,000km, your generous support would make the world of difference. The campaign is targeting to raise £80,000 to fund Imperial College to recruit a PhD student for 3 years, so anything you can contribute would be a great help.
The ethos of One More City is that the journey is never over; we are always progressing towards the next city, there are always more kilometres to do, more climbs to conquer and more challenges to face. This is akin to the reality of anyone living with cancer, especially secondary cancer, for whom the challenge is never over; there are always more treatments to endure, more scans to face, more side effects to manage.
