We are Dorset's disability charity to support people with varied disabilities

Story

Whilst I’m extremely excited, I’m also a little nervous to be running this year’s London Marathon in aid of Diverse Abilities! You’ve got this far, so please read on to find out more and see how YOU can help…

Diverse Abilities is the only charity that supports both children and adults with profound physical and learning disabilities in Dorset. Their mission is to enable children and adults with disabilities to achieve their full potential by providing a lifetime of sustainable support and educational services. This includes the provision of Langside Specialist school, Lily’s Place short break children’s home, the Beehive day activity and therapy centre, 24/7 supporting living services and lots more.

We cannot change people’s disabilities but, with your help, we can make their lives fun and fulfilled, giving them a future they truly deserve. Fundraising is a huge part of keeping Diverse Abilities services running, so please donate today!

  • £20 = an hour of 1:1 respite care for a child with disabilities
  • £30 = a youth club place with 1:1 care for a teenager with disabilities
  • £100 = a day of nursing at Diverse Abilities’ specialist school

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on people receiving and providing social care. Many care services have been overwhelmed, with more people needing assistance and staff ill or self-isolating. Front-line workers have faced increasing challenges as they adapt to minimise infection risk, through use of PPE and implementation of additional safety measures, and cope with increased anxiety, fear and stress. It is important that we support our community and the efforts of Diverse Abilities at this unprecedented time, so that they can continue to provide vital care to vulnerable people.

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to run the London Marathon. The route from Blackheath to The Mall, passes many of the city’s landmarks – including Buckingham Palace, The Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf. It will be the biggest sporting challenge I’ve ever faced, having only participated in a couple of half marathons previously. I will be willing my little legs to carry me the full 42.195 km.

Bring on Sunday 3 October 2021!

Please give generously – your support is GREATLY APPRECIATED!
