Story
What's the problem we're trying to solve?
We would like the community of Locking to have each of its five areas to have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that is publicly accessible. We've successfully raised enough to provide the first one on the Village Hall - thanks everyone! Locking Grove has bought one, Parklands and Oaktree Park too. Only Flowerdown Park to go now!
Why do we care about this project?
The facts about Sudden Cardiac Arrest are: It strikes without warning taking the lives of 250 people a day in the UK; Less than 5% of its victims in the UK survive; It kills more people than lung or breast cancer; It can happen to anyone, even young athletes; Defibrillation is the only treatment; Defibrillation within three minutes increases the chance of survival to over 70%
How will the money be spent?
The money will buy Locking parish a FIFTH Public Access Defibrilator!
When will we see the difference?
Another big green box will be prominently displayed in the Village. Anyone will be able to use it to gain access to a defibrillator to use until an Emergency Ambulance arrives. Full instructions are given by Ambulance Control at the time, and the machines themselves are virtually foolproof. These machines save lives.
