Story
Tinnitus. You might be aware of the term. It's a condition where individuals can hear sounds in the head and/or ear that are not caused by anything external. Persons suffering with it may hear ringing, buzzing, hissing, whistling, or other noises. The feeling might be continuous or intermittent, and its loudness can fluctuate.
Frequent, prolonged exposure to loud noises increases the risk of getting tinnitus, and it can make it worse. This is why it affects so many of us in the DJ and music industry. It can often be an underlying condition to loss of hearing and can really affect people's careers in the industry.
Oftentimes, people who have Tinnitus refrain from going clubbing and can really put them off being in loud places. In some cases, it can stop music producers entirely from carrying on with their career due to the constant ringing that they experience. People suffering from tinnitus can even find it really difficult to sleep as the ringing in their ears keeps them up at night!
Tinnitus can be prevented and can be treated. There are many ways. But it's not talked about enough.
The lovely people at the British Tinnitus Association (BTA) are doing such amazing work with helping people who have Tinnitus and raising awareness amongst different communities. It is the only national charity specialising in tinnitus support. Their vision is a world where no one suffers from tinnitus. They receive no money directly from the government, so are 100% reliant on the generosity and support of members of the public and grant-making organisations to be able to support people with tinnitus across the UK.All of their work is paid for by the generosity of supporters like you. They've helped us with our ears. Now it's our time to help them out.
Locked In are hosting a fundraising event at Stage and Radio on the 23rd July. It will be a live DJ event with the best underground music collectives in Manchester at the moment. All the ticket proceeds will go straight to the BTA and this fundraising page will also raise funds too.
The more awareness that is raised about Tinnitus, the more ears we can save from being affected by it.
