And more good news...
It’s finally going folks! Bell ringers up and down the country will be delighted to hear that the highly inappropriate heating ducting protruding into the ringing chamber at Mottram will be the big take away!
See photo gallery.
A new, more environmentally friendly heating system will see removal of the old heating ducting at the same time as carrying out essential repairs to the bell frame.
Costs to repair the bell frame are estimated to be £77k +VAT and
Chester Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers has generously granted £7500 seed funding towards the project. Church members, heating consultants and the DAC (Diocesan Advisory Committee) are consulting together. The work is integral to wider improvements to the church building, including a new, easy access pathway to the main church building door.
Join us and enjoy a light evening of varied live music. Buy tickets here; visit Mottram Church or talk with bell ringers:

The bell ringers of Mottram Parish Church - the ancient 'Church on the Hill' - are raising money to repair the bell frame of Mottram's exceptional and historic ring of eight bells.
The frame is under great tension due to corrosion in the main metal foundation beams. This has also caused bolts to shear. In 2017 the situation was critical and it seemed the bells would fall silent. Blyth & Co. Ltd. The Church Bell Specialists, were able to offer us a solution to keep the bells ringing until further funds could be raised. They installed fully galvanised transverse beams to underpin the weakened girders. We received a grant from The Chester Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers to help with the work.
A substantial legacy from Rev. Dr. Richard L. Hills MBE now means the work can go forward and the fully galvanised main beams installed. We have been promised a further grant from Chester Guild and there have been substantial donations received from individual bell ringers and others. Now, by arranging this concert along with other fundraising events, we hope to raise enough so that the work can start in the Spring. Once completed the frame should be fit to last for at least another 100 years.
Bell ringing can be enjoyed by all ages. It is a good way to make new friends. Once you are able to ring a bell you will be welcome in thousands of churches all over the country. Our team is involved in ringing all over the Diocese and further afield. We ring for Sunday services, weddings and other special occasions. We also visit other local towers and organise trips out.
When the frame is replaced we will be training new ringers to carry on this traditional art and skill, which is almost unique to the British Isles.
