Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This year we are fund raising for the Christie.
This year we plan to climb the Atlas mountain’s to summit North Africa’s highest peak, Toubkal. We will jump out of a perfectly serviceable plane from 3 miles up and Zip-Wire across Old Trafford Cricket Ground.
Also, we have a second visit to Mount Kilimanjaro slated in for June and an Alps trek through 3 countries in September. There will also be a Holts managers Snowdon climb up the Llanberis path on 12th Sept.
As usual we will be running raffles throughout the year to win a £50 Tab at the bar, and at Christmas a £500 cash raffle!
There are two other pages linked to the main one that can be accessed by clicking the Kilimanjaro link below the page title. If you add all three amounts along with their Gift aid amounts, you will get the total amount raised for the year.
UPDATE: we have now completed our Toubkal challenge which, in my opinion, was the hardest mountain I have ever climbed. The assent from base camp was unrelenting, starting at 5am in the dark we reached the top at around 12.30pm to be met by some spectacular views of the high Atlas Mountain’s. Then another long slog back down to base. A very hard day!
UPDATE: a group of five, including myself (Ian) have now completed the tandem Skydive. We jumped from 15,000ft. Sadly one of our group Diane had a hard landing and ended up being taken by ambulance to hospital. She is now out of hospital and we at the Nelson wish her a good and speedy recovery from her injury. Thinking of you Diane x
UPDATE: six of us completed a Zip wire challenge at Old Trafford Cricket ground on 10th March. It was hairy due to the high winds, driving rain and hail, yes hail! But all the team came through successfully showing real courage in the face of certain death!
UPDATE: In June Four of us Climbed to the top of Africa to reach the Summit of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. At a height of 5,895 metres, it's the worlds tallest free standing mountain. It was extremely hard but we all completed the challenge and lived to tell our tale!
UPDATE: On 8th Sept 19' myself and Julie returned from our successful Alps trek, three countries in three days (Switzerland, France and Italy. This was a lovely challenge which was much harder at points than we expected. Although it was hard, it was also lovely to spend time with so many people who work with or at the Christie Hospital itself, all their stories inspired us to keep doing our best for one of the very best Hospitals in the whole Country. Please, if you are able, give some more to help improve their CT department. Thanks x
UPDATE: On the12th Sept 19' we joined a team of Holts Managers to climb Snowdon on the Llanberis path for the Christie. The weather was awful and the higher we climbed the worse it got. Ultimately we had to stop, just 20 minutes from the summit due to safety reasons and returned to Terra Firma!
This wasn't a failure though, everyone involved gave their very best and only turned back because, as team leader i made the call to go down rather than risk a serious injury to one of the group. Thanks everyone for your commitment and endeavour today x
We are hoping for a big year at the Lord Nelson and have set our sites on raising £20,000 as our part of a bigger effort by Joseph Holt to Raise £100,000 to help redevelop the CT Department at The Christie Hospital and Holt Radium Institute.
Currently the department is in need of modernisation, having ageing CT scanners along with a very limited waiting area and poor changing facilities for patients. The vast majority of patients who go to The Christie will have several scans in the CT Department.
We have set this page up to coordinate our fundraising efforts into one total amount and make it easy to donate.
