Story
In 2023 I hit the 50 year milestone. Over the past year the health implications of aging has been visited upon my family in the form of a breast cancer diagnosis, surgery and treatment, for my partner. Throughout this challenging time my partner has been supported by an amazing local hospital which has enjoyed the services and investment from Macmillan over 20 years, transforming the cancer pathway. The efficient and valuable support in place has been a huge relief over the many months of worry and uncertainty. That's why I'm aiming to raise £500 as a contribution towards this valuable support for cancer sufferers.
So, after putting this pretty crappy year behind me, and then faced with entering my 5th decade, I felt a new challenge was needed. What began as the idea to run a marathon, in a few hours of conversation with my friend, turned into running an ultra marathon, of 100kms, in one go. My aim is to complete the distance in about 14 hours (with any luck, in one piece!). Plus, I'll be doing so fuelled 100% vegan. I hope to prove that getting older is no barrier to a fit and healthy body and mind... We'll see how that goes.
Macmillan supports people with cancer. Because cancer can affect your life in so many ways, they do whatever it takes to give people the support they need. Whether you need help paying bills, advice on benefits or treatment, or just want to chat.
An Ultra Marathon steeped in history and starting and finishing at the iconic Goodwood Racecourse. Two equal, but very different loops in the South of England with a variety of terrain and stunning landscapes that will challenge and inspire in equal measure!
