Story
Many of my choices in life are guided by my faith and by certainty of the unity of human beings. I chose to join JVC because I want to learn people's stories that are different from my own and connect with people through service. Also, I believe that the four values (social justice, community, spirituality and simple living) will create the foundation that can help me pursue a life of contributing to the common good.
Soon I will begin a year of service as a Teaching Assistant in a 1st through 3rd grade classroom. Mustard Seed School, a program of Sacramento Loaves & Fishes, is a free private school for children experiencing houselessness in preschool through 8th grade. They provide temporary emergency schooling, and seek to provide warmth, nurturing, safety and structure within an academic environment. I am most looking forward to reminding these kids of their inherent worth, value, and of the love that they deserve. I have always thought that my purpose is to work with kids, and I am joyful that I have this opportunity to try my best at being a source of light for the students at Mustard Seed.
