Story

WHEN?

Easter Monday! Easter weekend with a departure time of 1000 meeting off Littlehampton yacht club’s beach before heading to Brighton Pier, hoping to return by 1300.

The aim is to get in the Easter spirit with a fancy dress ski over to Brighton pier, near where the central hub is for the Sussex Cancer Fund which supports both East and West Sussex before heading back to Littlehampton.

WHO CAN ATTEND?

This is an open event to those that want to join us but we do ask a few things from you:-

1. Please ensure that your ski is fully serviced and mechanically sound. If you haven’t started it all winter please organise to ensure it’s running ok before the event.

2. We appreciate the charity may have some strong emotions attached to it and everyone will want to get involved but we will update the forecasted weather conditions a week before the ride and confirm the date. Whilst we would love for you all to come along please be honest with yourself and make sure you are able to ride the conditions for the event.

3. We will be leaving from Littlehampton Harbour which does require a permit to be had to launch of any of its slipways. If you have not done so already please pay your harbour dues and sign up for your permit here (please not a valid RYA PWC proficiency certificate or RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate is required to get the permit) :- https://www.littlehampton.org.uk/pwc-user-permit-application/ . If you are joining us from another launch location please get in contact with the LJSC admin so we can co-ordinate meeting up.

4. Although we hope the weather will be perking up and getting warmer the sea unfortunately won’t be toasty for a few months yet so please ensure you have a suitable wetsuit/ dry suit and floatation device. We also strongly recommend wearing gloves/ boots/ hats/ sunglasses!

5. If you are wanting to participate please confirm on the event page as we need to ensure we know numbers for launching and any media that will be documenting the trip.

DRESS CODE

Easter Joy!

Think - Easter Chick, Easter Bunny or for those wanting to get a bit creative, maybe even an Easter egg or is there something else you can think of?!

It is all a bit of fun but please do try and make as much of an effort as possible to have some form of fancy dress as we would love to turn heads and raise as much money as possible for this incredible Charity - and of course have a laugh along the way! 🐣🐰

At present fancy dress outfits on Amazon are available for circa £20 if you type in “Easter Fancy Dress”.

WHAT’S THE CHARITY?

This year we have picked Sussex Cancer Fund which helps with continuing research in to cancer and also supporting incredible initiatives to support those going through a cancer diagnosis and helping after treatment too to get back on your feet from alternative therapies such as acupuncture and joint funding of exercise/ rehab sessions  through to supporting hospitals between Haywards Heath and Chichester with new equipment to make the treatment more bearable.

WHY THIS CHARITY?

As you may know two of the Admin this past year ended up getting diagnosed with Cancer and are very grateful of the incredible support given to us by the local NHS and charities that support it.

The latest statistics state that 1 in 2 of us will get Cancer in our lifetime which means it’s likely your or someone you know may have been, or possibly could have this in your lifetime and this charity will be right behind you or a friend/ family member to help you and the family through this rollercoaster of a time.

FUNDRAISING

If you are joining us, awesome! If you are spectating or want to see an interesting bunch of skiers - thank you for your support! We kindly ask for your help and support to raising the awareness of this event in a bid to try and raise as much as possible for this great charity. We currently have a target of £5,000 which goes part of the way to support the many brilliant things that the Cancer Fund supports.

To give you some perspective of where some of your money could go towards:-

- Help make a specialist gown for breast cancer patience.

- Funding free car parking near the Sussex Cancer Centre in Brighton for those undergoing Chemotherapy and Radiation Treatment. (This is where people from all over Sussex receive treatment for a vast amount of cancers)

- Go someway towards supporting Albion in The Community, the Brighton Albion’s outreach programme helping those with cancer (during and post treatment) to get back up on their feet. This service has previously been in Brighton and surrounding areas but is now offering sessions in West Sussex which can really use the supportive funding to keep this support local for West Sussex users.

- Supporting the Macmillan Horizon Centre which is a sanctuary to go to whilst having treatment and also has many alternative complementary treatments to help with any side effects or to get back on your feet again after treatment.

- Specialist Chemotherapy chairs that can range up to £2,400!

Please spread the word to family/ friends/ work colleagues and neighbours to see if they can donate whatever they can no matter how big or small (believe the minimum donation JustGiving allow is £2) and cheer us along the way! 😃

The link to donate to is at the top of the description (for ease) and below:-
