Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

Lizzie has limited central vision in her left eye and hardly any vision at all in her right eye.

She took up running in February 2018 as her mental health was taking a bit of a bashing and, with the help of some amazing guide runners, set off on a journey to go from couch to marathon in just one year.

Since then Lizzie, with the help of guide runners, has run one marathon, 4 half marathons and many other 10K races. She's done this with the aim of raising money for sight loss charities and awareness of the importance of participation in sport for those who are blind and partially sighted. Due to her eye condition Lizzie often suffers with motion sickness when running, but it's amazing what can be achieved with the right mind set and help from others!

Lizzie met Clare late in 2018 at a local parkrun. Clare had just completed a guide running course and offered to hep Lizzie run when she needed a guide. Clare then helped with Lizzie's 2019 marathon training and the pair have since become fast friends.

After Lizzie completed the 2019 London Marathon with an amazing guide runner called Corin, Lizzie and Clare pledged to run the 2020 Marathon to raise even more money for sight loss charities and chose the RNIB because of the amazing work they do to support those with sight loss.

Every single penny raised will help someone, like Lizzie, who is suffering with sight loss.

Everyday 250 people begin to lose their sight. RNIB has a crucial role to play in creating a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss.

Lizzie has first-hand experience of just how important the work of the RNIB is. She began losing her sight in her early 30's and suffered a further set-back in 2014 when she was registered as severely sight impaired.  Over the years Lizzie has faced barriers in every day life because of her sight loss and has suffered mentally with coming to terms with sight loss.

Often when someone suffers with sight loss their lives change beyond measure.  Imagine one day you can see normally, you can drive, you can get around without help and then the next you can't - how would you cope?

The RNIB help people every day deal with the challenges sight loss can bring. So, Lizzie and Clare are going to run the London Marathon 2020 to raise much needed funds for the RNIB and hopefully inspire others to either participate in sport or to help guide others.

If you can, please spare a few pennies or pounds. We will really appreciate every single donation no matter what the amount - and of course your support!
