Story
After nearly 3 years since being offered a place, I am at last running the 'real' London marathon on October 2nd 2022. Covid delayed things 2 years ago, however I did complete the virtual London and it was honestly one of the best days of my life - despite the constant rain!
I am again raising money for the amazing London's Air Ambulance Charity, who save lives every single day. If you live in London, you've almost certainly seen one of their helicopters flying overhead or one of their emergency response vehicles whizzing past (the cars allow them to operate 24/7). They are a charity very much relying on fundraising, so I really hope you can support me as I run the 26.2 miles proudly wearing their top.
When I ran the virtual London marathon, I was supported over the last 8 miles by my husband, children, siblings, nieces, nephews and friends - some of whom ran the last 8 miles with me. I want to take this opportunity to thank them again for doing that - it really made that day so special.
One of those dear friends, Ruby, is no longer with us but she has been in my mind constantly as I've run my training runs - she absolutely loved the London Marathon and was my biggest cheerleader that day. When I run on October 2nd, I will be thinking of her throughout and know she would have been cheering me on if she could.
I've picked up a bit of a knee injury recently, so the training has been rather hampered and pretty painful at times. But I will be there on that start line even if I have to crawl over the line at the finish - just you watch! It's a lifetime dream & an amazing charity - I just cannot wait.
P.S. If you come to watch on the day, my t-shirt will say 'Liz' - but to get my attention, shout out the other name I'm known by -'Lizzi' - and hopefully I will hear and spot you! All support welcome!
