Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, in the darkest depths of winter with August a world away I had the very good idea of entering a triathlon. Now, with the 2nd August hurtling towards me at great speed 'good idea' has turned into 'abject fear'. I am hoping that you will see fit to sponsoring me in this somewhat foolish endeavour.
FAQs
Q Triathlon you say. What does that involve exactly?
A Well I will be doing the olympic distance (never do things by halves) which is a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride followed by a 10km run
Q When/ where is this happening?
A 2nd August, down in Docklands by the Excel centre
Q Docklands? Is there a swimming pool near there then?
A No. Well there might be but I won't be swimming in it. I will be swimming in the docks.
Q THE DOCKS????? AS IN THE THAMES??? ARE YOU COMPLETELY MAD??
A I appreciate your concern but please don't shout. Yes the docks, yes the Thames and yes, I am up to date with my hepatitis B vaccinations.
Q Sorry. How long do you think it will take?
A i'm not doing it for a time, I'm doing it to get round. (hopefully around 3.5 hours!! - see how I'm kidding myself that I'm not competitve)
Q Why would you do such a thing?
A Very good question. Firstly, why not? good to have a challenge. Secondly, I hope to be able to raise a lot of money by doing this which is where you can help me out. I am raising money for a project in Uganda set up by two inspiring individuals - Daniel and Shadrach, you can see their smiling faces on the photo above. Daniel and Shadrach have already set up a children's home and have adopted many children, have given them a home, put them through school and are generally working to give them a much brighter future than they would otherwise have had. Daniel and his wife now want to set up a home for families who have been affected by the Northern Ugandan conflict. This conflict has affected thousands and thousands of people, leaving adults and children physically and psychologically damaged, families torn apart and people having to walk through the nights to avoid abduction. Daniel's vision is to provide a home for people who have been left disabled as a consequence of the conflict, giving them somewhere safe to live. Foundations for this have already been built but to complete the project will take another 3000 pounds. I'm really hoping to raise a significant contribution to this project. They're a very small outfit so anything you donate will make a real difference to them. As you can see from the photo, the foundations have already been built so as soon as the money comes in they are ready to get the home built.
They're not registered as a charity in this country so I have arranged for the money you sponsor me to go through the church I belong to - St Mary's who will make sure that every penny given plus gift aid gets to Daniel and Shadrach.
I really hope you feel able to sponsor me in this, I think it's a great opportunity to help out people who are really making a difference to their community.
Thanks in advance
Liz
