We offer specialist advice & practical help to all with spina bifida & hydrocephalus

Story

Our gorgeous Daughter Sara was diagnosed with Spina Bifida on March 1st 2016 at the late age of 4 & half years old.

We were given Shine's contact details and very soon afterwards we had a call from Sian Prince, who visited us at home to provide support. Sian was brilliant and we have been in regular contact ever since.  We have attended days out and have met other families who face similar challenges.  Sara's spina bifida has caused her to be double incontinent so we have to manage Sara's toilet routines by way of daily bowel washouts and catheterisation.  Needless to say this can be rather stressful at times when trying to explain and reason with a 5 & half year old. Again Shine have come to the rescue with the  assistance of a specialist incontinence nurse Brenda Cheer who frequently visits us at home to teach us how to do this, without this we wouldn't be where we are today.

Shine are having a sponsored event during the 2017 summer holidays where young  Shine members including Sara are walking up Pen-Y- Fan the highest peak in South Wales with the aid of Central Brecons Mountain Rescue Team. Anyone who knows Sara will know she's an active little girl who loves gymnastics, dancing and swimming - this keeps her legs strong.

Pen-y-Fan is a challenge for her as she can often complain "my legs are tired" and topples over more than you average 5 & half year old.

#TeamSara are supporting Sara made up of: Sara,  Liz & Paul (Mum & Dad), Peter Morris (Grandad), Andrew & Rhian (Uncle & Aunty), Alison George, Lesley Kelvin-Smith (Cousins) plus family and friends. Please sponsor us as without Shine's support our life really would be a lot more difficult...
