Story

Hi All

Thanks for visiting my Justgiving Page.

On June 3rd, I'm doing a 10K run in Dublin on behalf of ME Research UK. This may not sound like a long run to alot of you fit people out there but trust me it will be a wee challenge for me!!

The reason I've chosen ME Research UK is in support of my sister, Laura, who has suffered with the illness for over 7 years now. She was a Senior Marketing Manager for over 10 years before she was hit with the illness in 2006 and she hasn't been able to work since.

ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis)/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome affects all types of people at all ages. It manifests itself in  severe and debilitating fatigue, painful muscles and joints, disordered sleep, gastric disturbances and poor memory and concentration are commonplace. In many cases, onset is linked to a viral infection. Other triggers may include an operation or an accident, although some people experience a slow, insidious onset.

ME Research UK is a charity with the principal aim of commissioning and funding scientific (biomedical) investigation into the causes, consequences and treatment of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. This is a debilitating illness which affects approx 240,000 people in the UK and 10,000 sufferers in the Rep, of Ireland but which is not well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised.

Any contribution at all would be much appreciated.

Thanks a million

Lizanne
