Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
It’s been a while since either of us have done a marathon (April 2019 and May 2019)and whilst Brian is in pretty decent shape Iv got a lot of chub to shift and miles to build up.
We decided to take on this target of raising over £4000 to run for Autism because our lives are profoundly affected by autism every day. James (8) is a hilarious, clever, loving little man who struggles massively with certain aspects of life and has a formal diagnosis. The rest of us don’t have a diagnosis, but we are all cut from the same cloth and everyday life can be extra stressful when you get easily overloaded. We live a gently, loving low stress life as far as we can, and face daily challenges nonetheless. We would like to help other families with autism access support like therapies, sensory play, days out that they can cope with, and to advocate for the things that make life easier for persons with autism, for example quiet times and areas at events, leisure facilities and so on. These can make a huge difference to families like ours and make an experience more enjoyable than it is stressful. Many types of therapies can improve quality of life, help people with autism develop and maintain friendships, education, and work, but often cost us a huge hurdle to benefitting from a lot of the things on offer.
