With Easter just round the corner it’s a wakeup call that this year’s challenge of a Triathlon is fast approaching - no easy challenge for me! I’m still not fully recovered from a running injury and battling with ongoing foot pain, so yes, the run I can do.. in theory! As for the bike and the swim… well, I’m new to road riding and not yet very overconfident on thin tyres and I definitely DON’T do sea swimming, the pool is my happy place! The whole seaweed, jellyfish, cold water, and not being able to see the bottom freaks me out so this is where my biggest challenge lies and, if I’m honest, it’s the part that I am REALLY not looking forward to at all!
So, on June 26th 2022, which is only 10 weeks away, I’ll be taking part in the Jersey Try-A-Tri followed by in September the Jersey Super League Triathlon on behalf of Dementia Jersey to help raise funds and awareness.
I am sure most of us know of a family member, loved one or a friend who has or had Dementia and will understand just how hard it is to see someone affected by this. I personally have family members who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and have supported and cared for loved ones with this and have many friends who are doing the same for those they care for. Seeing them struggle with fading memory, confusion and difficulty speaking and expressing themselves isn’t nice at all, watching them deteriorate and eventually pass away with Dementia. My personal experience is why I want to help support Dementia Jersey by raising awareness and some extra funds to help keep them keep supporting those in our community who are affected by this awful disease.
