Story
In 2004 I co-founded a pre-school and adult education centre in Tanzania called KCEM. We took 30 volunteers and built the centre - and a health clinic - from scratch. Returning to the UK I set up Working-in-Tandem and we sent over 140 volunteers to Tanzania to work at KCEM and brought 5 teachers to the UK for teacher training. Now I am a trustee for LivLife and we raise funds for KCEM.
I care deeply about KCEM and all the staff, students and children that we support. We only receive funds for running costs through the kindness and generosity of our 'Friends of KCEM' LivLife community and fundraising to keep the centre open is a huge undertaking. But I know that every penny makes a difference and I believe that working together with the dedicated staff we have driving change in Tanzania, KCEM can thrive, providing even more opportunities and support to vulnerable people living in Tanzania.
Why KCEM
KCEM is there to support a whole community of people in Tanzania - offering an opportunity to have an education they otherwise wouldn't have had. It is an adult education centre, a pre-school and a safe, supportive space.
LivLife funds at KCEM in a year:
• 14 members of staff receiving stable pay
• 45 children with pre-school childcare 6 days a week
• 120 adults supported through French, English, business, computing and tailoring classes
• 8550 meals of porridge provided for the pre-school children!
Poverty is being made worse by Covid-19 and KCEM is needed now more than ever. Our KCEM staff and LivLife trustees work tirelessly to ensure students and children at KCEM get the vital support they need right now, but we can't do it alone.
Team LivLife are aiming to raise £3000 for KCEM to break even in 2021. Without raising these funds we simply won't make ends meet this year, impacting our ability to pay staff and keep all our courses running. Team LivLife will ensure KCEM can continue and thrive. Improving our services to provide educational opportunities for vulnerable people living in Tanzania.
Support Team LivLife on our challenge by joining us or sponsoring us - do something positive during these difficult times, whilst making a difference to everyone at KCEM!
