Story
This August, I’ll be covering 80 miles in 1 month, to fundraise and raise awareness about Ectopic Pregnancies.
Last Autumn, we lost our first baby due to an Ectopic Pregnancy. My partner and I were so excited to be pregnant, but we knew things weren't right after days of pain, tests and waiting in A&E. The consultant explained my pregnancy was ectopic... a life threatening condition which affects 1 in every 80 pregnancies. It happens when a pregnancy grows outside of the womb; for me this meant baby was growing in my left fallopian tube.
Sadly, there was no way to save the pregnancy; and after a lot of heartache, I was told the only option was to operate and remove the pregnancy, and my fallopian tube too.
In a matter of 48 hours, I went from overjoyed and hopeful to grieving, in a place of loss and sadness.
After surgery, I had lots of time at home, my body was trying to rest whilst my mind was attempting to process what had just happened.
I was desperate for someone to talk to, to relate to; but had never heard anyone ever talk openly about baby loss or ectopic pregnancies. So, I turned to google, in search of hope and connection, and there I found the incredible EPT.
The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust are a charity, providing information, education and support to those affected by early pregnancy complications and to the health professionals who care for them.
I found huge comfort and solace in their online forums, sharing my story and reading stories of others impacted in their own unique ways. I attended free support groups, zoom calls and was even able to meet other incredible women who'd had Ectopic Pregnancies. The EPT created a safe space for me when I needed it most. It was those moments that gave me strength and a space to exist with others who knew the pain I was experiencing.
I will forever be grateful to the incredible EPT team and am taking on this challenge to raise awareness and funds to support the important work they do for those affected by Ectopic Pregnancies.
