Story
November 17 is World Prematurity Day, a globally celebrated awareness day to increase awareness of preterm births. As part of World Prematurity Day, we will be hosting a live-streamed entertainment event which will include Irish musicians Tríona O’ Neill, Stephanie Rainey, Elly O’ Keeffe, and Irish/NYC hybrid Pet Beast, spoken-word artist Sasha Terfous, and interviews with parents of premature children who will share their experiences with the aim of offering support and community to other parents.
The music video to ‘Little One’ a new single by Triona O’ Neill will also be streamed and shows a collection of real-life moments captured by preemie parents themselves. This insight into their journey showcases their incredible strength, highlighting the importance of World Prematurity Day and raising awareness of premature birth.
In the week leading up to the event, participants will be sharing their stories to raise awareness for World Prematurity Day with the hashtag #BornTooSoonNMHEvent #WorldPrematurityDay
About the charity
The NMH Foundation raises vital funds for the National Maternity Hospital, with a focus on advancing maternal and neonatal health, through funding research, innovation and excellence in care. These advances through research and practice will reduce risks for mothers and babies and will save lives.
More than 8,000 babies are born at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street every year, Tríona’s nephew included. Tríona shares: “Conn was a tiny 700g when he was born. It was a scary time, but thanks to the support and care he received at The NMH he is now a happy healthy toddler, getting himself into all sorts of devilment.”
The live-stream will take place at 8 pm on Tuesday, November 17th right here on our Just Giving Page.
