The Swellies, Y Felinheli
After spending a week in hospital for monitoring, our twins Wilf and Ida were born via emergency C-section at 29+4 weeks, due to a drop in Wilf's heart rate. They were given breathing support and I was allowed to see them very briefly before they were taken to the neonatal intensive care unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. A few hours later, and I was able to meet my babies, while they were in their incubators. These strong babies had to endure numerous invasive procedures each day. Once they were able to breathe on their own, they were transferred to SCBU at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. We were lucky to be able to stay in rooms near the babies for the 7 weeks that they were in NICU and SCBU.
Life in neonatal intensive care units and special care baby units is a rollercoaster. Babies can seem to progress and then suffer setbacks very easily. The work that Bliss carries out to improve the lives and outlooks for these babies is so important, and we'd love to raise some money for them, and raise awareness of the charity, by encouraging as many people as possible to take part in the Little Lights 2023 walk, on World Prematurity Day on the 17th November.
We will start at the Swellies Cafe in Y Felinheli at 6pm, before walking past the boats in the marina and down towards the sailing club. We will loop around the field and head back towards the Swellies where hot drinks will be provided. Have a coffee, hot chocolate, or babyccino on us, and if you'd like to make a donation to Bliss there will be a donations box 😊
The walk will take about half an hour, and is little legs, buggy (including double), and dog friendly.
Make sure to light yourselves up….fairy lights, glow sticks, whatever you can find 💡
Thanks for your support ❤️👶👶
1 in every 7 babies born in the UK will need specialist care.Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick. They rely on donations to fund their work, and without our help they won't be able to reach the 90,000 babies needing neonatal care each year.Your donation to my page will help Bliss to drive improvements in neonatal care, to ensure that the needs of babies are at the heart of policy and planning for the future, and to provide information and support to all families with a baby born premature or sick.
