Story
Being the daughter of the late and much-loved GP, Dr Bryan Pickles, the University Hospital Birmingham Charity seemed to be the obvious choice for my Captain’s Charity. Good Hope Hospital in particular has played an important part in my life, providing me with excellent care during two pregnancies, childbirth and for repairing various injuries though out my hockey career.
With a notable increase in dementia diagnosis across the country, including many close friends and their families, I have chosen to support the work of the newly formed Dementia Team who are working across all four hospitals to improve patients experiences whilst in hospital.
These brand new roles are currently being recruited and will be working with patients suffering from Dementia, supporting their emotional and physical well-being during their time in hospital; helping to reduce the impact of an extended hospital stay. They will be supporting the work of the Engagement Leaders with the provision of resources, materials and activities which will be specifically requested by the Leaders to suit the needs of the patients they are working with.
I look forward, with the support of the lady golfers at Little Aston, to raising funds to this much needed facility over the next two years.
