Story
For just over 2 weeks before she died, our 12 year old daughter, Maisie, was beautifully and tenderly cared for by the staff at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the Bristol Children's Hospital. Whilst she was there we were incredibly grateful for the accommodation that we, her parents and siblings, were provided by the hospital in Bristol. But not everyone is as lucky to have somewhere to stay. There is often nowhere for the worried, exhausted relatives to rest their heads at night and they end up sleeping in their car, or upright in a chair next to the bed in the unit. Frequently this is for days or even weeks. After much hard work and lots of fundraising, the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal has acquired a building directly opposite the Children's Hospital which they are planning to turn into accommodation for families of the young patients in the hospital. We are very excited to be a part of this plan, and our aim is to raise enough money to provide a suite on the top floor which comprises a bedroom with ensuite shower, separate toilet and an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area with sofa bed. This suite will be used mainly for long-stay families on PICU and will be able to accommodate a family of 4. It will cost approximately £50k to refurbish, hence our target, and it will be named after our beautiful Maisie. Thank you for your support.
