Story
Please help us to raise money for a wonderful cause! I’m so excited to be hosting events and raising money for Diabetes UK. Their research, forums, helplines and events both raise awareness and offer crucial support for people living with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes. Our own experience living with Type 1 the past three years has been very challenging and it is a huge relief to know there is a charity there to offer us support. Louis was in a critical condition when diagnosed age 10 and two years later took a huge step going on a Type 1 Event led by Diabetes UK, for the first time meeting other kids his age going through the same thing and feeling ‘normal’ for once, a truly invaluable experience. Type 1 Diabetes is a tough condition to live with and there is currently no cure. I'd gladly take Louis’ place but of course that's just not an option. My young cousin Edward has also just been diagnosed Type 1 so I am raising money with him in mind as he begins his often tricky, life-changing journey juggling blood glucose readings, insulin doses and carbohydrate counting…
So Diabetes UK is a charity very close to our hearts. Our whole family are getting stuck into the fundraising efforts and we’d be over the moon if you would offer any amount of sponsorship! I’ll be running the London Marathon on 22nd April, hoping to make the children proud, to set a good example with my own health habits & to show that things seemingly out of reach are achievable.
We are all undertaking Swim22 - swimming 22 miles, the equivalent distance of crossing the English Channel, between 22 Feb & 22 May!
I am swimming my 22 miles entirely in the sea without a wetsuit… ❄️
Louis (12) & Amelie (10) are making up their miles as a team (in the swimming pool) - Amelie has been swimming especially hard the past few weeks, covering nearly a mile in each session! Nick will make up the distances where he can as our team mileage creeps up…. please sponsor us all to make the training worthwhile!
As well as running and swimming for the charity, we are organising yoga events, making things to sell, hosting a quiz, coffee mornings and book sales, school events & cake sales and undertaking a final mile in the sea inviting others to join us on 22nd May.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can offer whether it's pennies, pounds or a few words of encouragement!
