Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
I have decided that I am going to run the Liverpool Rock & Roll Half marathon (June 2015) in memory of my Step Mum - Donna O'Keeffe and hopefully raise money for The Eve Appeal.
Donna was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2012 when my little sister Tilley was just one years old. Donna sadly passed away on the 18th July 2014 peacefully at home with us all around her. It has devastated our family and we will always make sure Tilley remember's her Mummy when she's older. When Donna was diagnosed and I was told it was terminal I thought then that I wanted to do something for a charity which raises awareness and reserches into gynaecological cancers, giving families support and hope. Without such charites we wouldnt have had the amount of time we did with Donna from her diagnoses.
I had already started doing the NHS running plan -Couch to 5k when Donna was alive which I was thoroughly enjoying and Donna thought I was mad LOL . With never running a day in my life ever!! After a few months when life started to settle down a little after Donna had passed away I decided that I was going to run a half marathon with the support of my partner Suzanne . I found this amazing charity The Eve Appeal . I contacted them told them my story and they said they would be honored to support me 100%, so thats how it all started and now its time to get my trainers on.
We need to fight these horrible diseases to help stop other families going through what we have . The Eve Appeal is a charity which is specifically for gynaecological cancer's that was formed in 2002 , working hard to raise money to fund the worlds-class research programme at the department of women's Cancer based at university college london (UCL)
The department's vital and much needed research will benefit women in the UK and around the world .
. Every day in the UK 55 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological Cancer and 21 will die. The Eve Appeal are determained to change this.
. Awareness of gynaecological Cancer's is very low and many women do not even know there are five gynaecological Cancer's.
. In recent years there has been a rise in the number of younger women being diagnosed with gynaecological Cancer.
. 40% of women diagnosed with a gynaecological Cancer will not survive , despite these grim statistics , gynaecological Cancer is not a well- funded cause.
. Although we are a small charity our contribution is disproportionately large as we fund innovative new research and cover gaps in funding which allows projects to maintain momentum.
Any donations that you make , no matter how big or small will help this charity keep fighting this horrible disease. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and donate . I will do you all proud . Especially you Don :-)) xx
