Story
Last year I took part in a one way relay swim across the English Channel in a 6 person relay which took us over14 hours. This year my challenge is a lot tougher...
I will be swimming a relay with 3 other people and this time when we get to France we will be swimming back! Last year I was able to sleep on the boat all the way back- I won't have that option this time. The challenge is 52 nautical miles (about 60 road miles) and will take anywhere between 20 hours to 30 depending on weather, tides etc.
We will be leaving sometime around the 9th - 16th August, we will get less than 24hrs notice of our departure as it depends on weather windows and tides.
As before this will be done in just a swimming costume, a swim hat and a pair of goggles. The usual challenges of swimming in cold water, through the night, jellyfish, seasickness, and the odd boat or two getting in the way and being tired will be doubled.
I will be raising money for COSMIC which is a children's intensive care unit based in St Mary's hospital in Paddington (London).
Money donated towards my challenge will be used to:
- Buy state-of-the-art equipment for the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St Mary's Hospital
- Fund a programme of groundbreaking research into life-threatening childhood diseases that has a global impact on new treatments
- Pay for training for health professionals involved in paediatric intensive care
- Support families and staff
Please help me to support these children and give them a better chance in life to find out more about how the money raised is spent please click on the following link - http://cosmiccharity.com/about-cosmic/how-we-help
