Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In December 2008, my uncle passed away, at the age of only 51, after battling Motor Neurone Disease (MND) for 2 years.

For those of you who don't know MND is a term used to describe a group of related diseases, affecting the motor nerves or neurones in the brain and spinal cord, which pass messages to the muscles telling them what to do. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing loss of mobility, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. MND is typically fatal within 2- 4years and as yet there is still no cure.

Over the last few years friends and family have helped to raise money for the MND assocation through events such as this. The money raised goes to the MNDA to help fund their research into the disease, with the hope of one day finding a cure.

The idea for rowing Lake Windermere came from remembering the many charity events my uncle Ian took part in himself before he was diagnosed with MND. He rowed Lake Windermere on a number of occasions raising money for various charities such as St Gemmas Hospice, therefore his family and friends have decided to carry on the tradition in his memory.

This is the third row we have taken part in and thanks to the support and kindness of friends and family, each year proves to be a success. We hope to make each year even more successful than the last, and we can only do this with your support.

I appreciate that financially times are hard for most people, charities such as MNDA are also feeling the pinch. It is times like these that they need donations more than ever to continue their important work. We would love you to donate and would be extremely grateful for any donation, every penny counts! It's really easy to donate just follow the instructions on the website.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

We could not do this without your support, so please sponser us.

Thanks for you time (and hopefully your money!) x
