Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In December 2008, my uncle passed away, at the age of only 51, after battling Motor Neurone Disease (MND) for 2 years.

For those of you who don't know MND is a term used to describe a group of related diseases, affecting the motor nerves or neurones in the brain and spinal cord, which pass messages to the muscles telling them what to do. Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing loss of mobility, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. MND is typically fatal within 2- 4years and as yet there is still no cure.

Over the last few years friends and family have helped to raise money for the MND assocation through events such as this. The idea for rowing Lake Windermere came from remembering the many charity events my uncle Ian took part in himself before he was diagnosed with MND. He rowed Lake Windermere on a number of occasions raising money for various charities, therefore his family and friends have decided to carry on the tradition in his memory and donate all money to the MND association to help them fund research into the disease.

The first rowing event took place last year and proved to be very successful, however this year we want to raise even more money!

We would love you to donate to this event and woulde be grateful of any donation. It's really easy to donate just follow the instructions on the website.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
