Story

Having barely run since April last year I am aiming to run 100 miles during September. That's almost a marathon each week and to be honest that feels like quite a challenge for me at the moment.

I'm doing this because our local Chulmleigh community has committed to offering a home to a refugee family. The Syrian conflict has displaced over 12 million people of which roughly half are children. We can't help everyone but we believe we can offer hope and the chance of a future to one family.

The scheme known as Community Sponsorship is slowly resettling families into villages and towns across the UK, with full refugee rights, which gives them the right to work, access healthcare, schools and so on. We have cleared the first hurdle, with the Home Office accepting our application but now we need to find a house for them to rent and to raise £10,000 to cover things like interpreters, school uniforms and other expenses which a family arriving in a new country need.
