On the 15 Sep last year my amazing Neice Mia was born early, very early. She was born at 24 Weeks and weighed just 1lb 6oz. Luckily, my sister in Law had just been transported to Portsmouth hospital. What followed was one of the toughest things to watch, she battled for her tiny little life and gave us a few scares along the way. It was in no way straight forward and my Brother Neil and Sister in Law Lisa spent months in a situation no parents should have to experience. Not only did they have one child fighting for her life 2 hours away they had another little girl Ava here in Dorset wondering why her little sister hadn't come home. The staff at Portsmouth were amazing, not only did they keep our fragile little miracle alive, they supported Neil and Lisa through probably the traumatic experience they have ever been through. They were able to sleep at the hospital when needed so they could bond with Mia, they answered the millions of questions they both had and most of all, they did everything in their power to keep my little Neice fighting. They are still supporting her development to this day, she is now a smiley 9 month old baby who should only be 5 months old. She is amazing, I love her dearly and we owe the staff at portsmouth so so much.
Although Portsmouth NICU is not our most local ward, it treats some of the most poorly babies in the south of England so please give what you can. The money will be used to buy equipment etc to help other babies like Mia.
I am completing a 14k obstacle run which I'm told is a really tough one, there are lots of dark enclosed spaces, tunnels etc, this is pretty much my worse nightmare but is nothing compared to what Mia , Lisa, Neil and Ava have been through. I'm training to do this properly, I'm not going to walk around like a pansy, I'm going to run, and smash the hell out of this race.
