Paternoster School has 50 pupils aged 4-16, who have a range of additional needs. We are embarking on our biggest project to date the building of a fully accessible playground for our students, their families and the wider disabled community.

Story

India is wheelchair bound and non verbal. She will benefit hugely from an inclusive playground. The equipment caters for Indias needs with a wheelchair roundabout, which she will really enjoy on a sensory level, and also the wheelchair seesaw. There are no comparable facilities in the area. Sophie, has Down Syndrome and because of this she has low muscle tone and a propensity to gain weight more easily than typical children. Therefore physical activity is very important for her Unfortunately Sophie can not find much to do at local public playgrounds as the equipment which is suitable for her height is too advanced for her height is too advanced for her physical abilities. This playground could give her independence as it will be securely fenced and allow socialisation with friends in the holidays. Sophie would also absolutely love to play with her best friend India who is a wheelchair user on equipment that they can both enjoy together!
