Story
My name is Cerys O’Connell and when I was 4 years old, I was diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition called Severe Aplastic Anaemia. The only treatment was to have a Bone Marrow Transplant. Luckily, my sister Megan was a blood match and following intensive chemotherapy, I received my transplant on 21st June 2013.
I love swimming and am a member of Nexus Valley Swimming Club. In July 2022, I competed for the Wales Transplant Team in the British Transplant Games in Leeds, where I won 3 Golds and 1 Silver medal in Swimming. This was following 2 Golds and a Bronze in the British Transplant Games in Newport in 2019. I’m absolutely ecstatic to have been selected to compete for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the World Transplant Games, Perth, Australia in 2023.
I am raising funds to cover my expenses associated with attending the Games in Perth, Australia. As I am only 14, my parents will also be attending so any extra funds will help to cover their costs. Any surplus funds will go towards the Transplant Sport UK Management Team (including physios and coaches) who give up their time to support the team.
Please help me reach my goal. Any donations, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated. I am training really hard and hope to come back from Australia with some medals!
