Story
My Memory walk is dedicated to Mrs Effie Lewis (aka Shoogs) who was a very instrumental person in the lives of everybody who knew Shoogs.
Information provided by Effie's family...Effie Lewis raised 6 children and she was undoubtedly the ‘governor’ ensuring that her lifelong work ethic and community spirited focus resonated far and wide.
The Shoogs talked of her found memories as she recorded a 25 year history as a ‘Tate and Lyle’ employee along with many lifelong friends.
She appeared to almost be a ‘child minder to the nation’ as just one of her other pathways in life saw the Shoogs rightly become the pied piper for many families, a lifeline which enabled mums in particular to undertake part-time work. Fitness regimes, including swimming, aerobics, singing and dancing became the norm for a lady in her 70’s while some angles were fearing to tread, never put off the Shoogs. She use to say “ if it’s there it can be done”.
I have two memorable stories that I will never forget about Shoogs, which showed just how strong her character was...1) how she got her job at Tate and Lyle 2) Shoogs experience when she applied for a mortgage at Abbey National (now known as Santander).
Shoogs is dearly missed everyday by her family and friends xxxx
