Story
I am completing this challenge in July 2022 because the British Heart Foundation is a charity that is very important to me. I am completing the challenge with my boyfriend, Matthew, who has a condition called Dilated cardiomyopathy. This is his story:
“In 2013 I was diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition called Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). A condition in which the heart's ability to pump blood is decreased because the heart's main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, is enlarged and weakened. Over the last few years I have learned to live and adapt my lifestyle to the condition.
In 2019, I received the unfortunate news that my condition had worsened and I required surgery to have an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) fitted to help protect my heart with a shock in the event my heart falls into a life-threatening rhythm.
Sadly in 2020, my dad passed away suddenly with the same DCM heart condition aged just 57. Living with this condition has brought its own physical limitations and mental challenges to my life, but it has also inspired me to play my part in making a difference!
Last year I completed the Great North Run, raising £1,000 for The BHF with the support of family and friends. In 2022, I aim to complete The Yorkshire 3 Peaks (24 hard miles of hiking!) and fundraise once again for the BHF to help beat heartbreak forever!
Thank you for visiting my page, I'd be so grateful for your support to help fund new treatments and discover new cures through groundbreaking research. Every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!”
Thank you everyone for your support!
