Next August I am undertaking the grueling challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation. Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and with the top most point being 5,895m, it is a tough challenge for anyone to undertake.

And I am not just anyone. Those of you who know me well will know what a challenge this will be for me - I would much prefer to spend my evenings nursing a bottle of wine or pot of tea then jogging round chilly Manchester getting fit for the climb but I’m changing my ways in order to support the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Meningitis is a lethal disease, which is often diagnosed all too late. With symptoms that vary little from a common cold or flu many people die before they even realize how ill they are. Those who survive can also be left with devastating disabilities such as blindness and amputated limbs. Research in Meningitis has come on amazingly over the past few years with several strains now having vaccinations available – the Meningitis Research Foundation believe that over the next decade even more vaccinations will become available with the aim to one day having the disease completely eradicated. They need vital funding for this, which is where I’m hoping to help out.

The minimum sponsorship for this is £2500 – a significant chunk of this will be paid by myself to cover my own expenses but I’m looking for help to raise the other sponsorship. One of the easiest ways for this is for people to donate via this page! Any amount is appreciated and I can guarantee in return the satisfaction in knowing you’ve done your bit to help eliminate this horrendous disease (and perhaps the odd hilarious photo of me during the climb)
